SFTP instead of FTP

- Storage
- Files are encrypted at rest with AES-256. By default, Sync Motion manages the keys. Business and Enterprise customers can use their own encryption keys (BYOK).
- Protocol
- Sync Motion operates SFTP only. Unencrypted FTP is not offered and cannot be enabled on request.
- Integration
- Host, port, username, password. Your existing SFTP client connects as it is; no additional software is required.

Where is my data stored?
Data for the US offer is stored on infrastructure in Chicago, United States.
Does it work with WinSCP and FileZilla?
Yes. Choose SFTP as the protocol and use the host returned with your account, port 22, and your personal credentials.
Is the service available in the United States?
Yes. Select the United States storage region when creating your account to provision it in Chicago.
Can I use SSH keys instead of a password?
Yes. You can use a password, an SSH key, or both — in Europe and in the United States.
Can I use my own storage?
Yes. Pro includes a 5 GB + own-storage option for $11/month. Business and Enterprise already include support for customer-owned compatible storage backends.
Do you offer FTPS as well?
No. Our service is limited to SFTP because it requires only port 22. FTPS requires port 21 as well as a range of passive data ports that must be opened in the firewalls on both sides. If a partner system supports FTPS only, we can set up a bridge on request: it accepts the partner’s FTPS connection and makes the files available in your SFTP account.
